THE CAVE
The Man finally broke the crust.
Stepping from darkened earth into the light.
Colors never seen.
His eyes shaking off the dust.
All his life, he had only seen,
the crudeness of black and white.
Now life and beauty were felt.
He looked at the hole from where he came,
and realized to return and tell his friends,
was a must.
So first he called with his voice,
hoping they would heed,
and climb from the subterranean night.
Hoping the message would lead them,
into the light.
No answer.
So he slowly climbed back down,
into the black.
They both swore as he approached,
treating him like he had cancer.
They waited for him to bow,
to their black and white crown.
He tried to speak,
they would not listen.
He tried to point,
they turned and complained of a reek.
That he should not speak of that,
which could in the light glisten.
That he should go,
that he had no mission.
So he turned and climbed back.
The Man finally broke through the crust.
Stepping from darkened earth into the light.
Sad, yet understanding,
and leaving his friends,
to their rust.
Realizing, that only with the colors,
his life would never lack,
and that he could not,
without them wishing it,
show the others.
